Not quite as popular as blue branded beer, the blue banded bee is a mix of concern and fascination.

The concern comes from the first line in the bee link. These things spend a lot of time burrowing into some bricks at the top of our earth-walled house.  They just might be turning it into residential Swiss cheese.

I could never kill them because the fascination comes in the evening when they "sleep" for the night. They congregate on the same branch every night, hanging on with their mouths, often alternating direction.

When another bee comes to land nearby they flap their wings and kick their legs seemingly saying "piss of buddy, I'm here".
